Press Release
Clear2Pay together with Techso Smart Solutions and Keith Smith Consulting win Contactless Monkey Award EMV compliant mass transit initiative South Africa: “trailblazing innovation”
Brussels, 20 April 2011 – Clear2Pay, the international technology provider of next generation payment solutions for financial institutions, today announces it has won the Contactless Monkey Award in the category “Trailblazing and Innovation”. The “Trailblazing and Innovation” Award is given to companies who have done the most to further the boundaries of contactless technology either through technology introduction or pilot programs.
The award was granted for the South Africa EMV Contactless Payment and Electronic Fare Collection Program, a joint project with South African consultancy firms Keith Smith Consulting and Techso Smart Solutions . The project, the first EMV-based eTicketing transport program on the African continent, aims to modernise South-Africa’s public transport, transforming it into an integrated system by implementing a contactless Automatic Fare Collection based on EMV payment standards. The contactless card initiative will enable commuters both convenient ticket purchasing as well as low value retail payments.
The fourth edition of the award, wich is organized yearly by Contactless Intelligence, an innovative marketing platform for contactless technologies, saw a record number of entries, underlining the growing significance of contactless payment applications.
Steve Atkins, CEO of Krowne Communications, the company behind Contactless Intelligence, states: “Whereas other awards ceremonies focus on behind-the-scenes technological innovations, we honour those firms that are really making a difference and cross the Rubicon in getting contactless devices into the hands of users and encouraging consumers to use them at both major international and small retailers throughout the world.”
Marie Costers, Head of the Test Tools Competence Centre at Clear2Pay adds: ”We are delighted to be part of this prestigeous project in South-Africa, a country where Clear2Pay is active at present implementing several payment solutions. The partnership with Keith Smith Consulting and Techso Smart Solutions brought us the local sector knowledge and public transport expertise we needed to complete our certification laboratory in Cape Town where banks and third parties can locally certify their products to ensure optimal interoperability between cards and devices. This type of partnership whereby we offer our customers a total and rich solution, rather than just technology, is part of our DNA and we are very proud to have jointly won this award.”

2011/11/15 - Clear2Pay and IFSF co-operate on development of EMV Fuel Cards |
|
Press Release Clear2Pay and IFSF successfully co-operate on development of the first technical standard for EMV-based Fuel CardsInternational petroleum retailing body to facilitate introduction of chip-based payments for the Fuel Card industry
Brussels, Paris 15 November, 2011 – Clear2Pay, the international technology provider of next generation payment solutions for financial institutions, and the International Forecourt Standards Forum (IFSF), the non-profit standards organization of international petroleum retail, announce today the result of their successful collaboration in the development of the technical specifications for the issuance of EMV-based fuel cards. The main aim of this co-operation was to facilitate petroleum retailers and other Fuel Card issuers to migrate seamlessly from magnetic stripe to chip-based Fuel Cards and enable a common way of working between Fuel Card issuers assuring worldwide interoperability. The specifications are based on the field-proven EMV technology, the global standard for chip-based payments and current IFSF EFT interface and security standards. Today’s Fuel Cards - issued by the international oil industry and some specialist independent companies and used extensively by individual businesses, drivers, rental and transport companies, tour operators and more - are based on magnetic stripe technology. Following the global migration trend to chip cards and terminals in the retail payment world, petroleum retailers wish to have the flexibility to introduce EMV-based cards and significantly improve the security of Fuel Cards.
Clear2Pay (C2P) have assisted IFSF in defining its new standard in close collaboration with the IFSF members via their EFT Working Group which included the participation of several international Petroleum Retailers, major forecourt equipment suppliers and other IFSF Technical Associates. The recently issued new standard covers card selection, card personalization, Issuer Host Processing and the operational requirements to enable a smooth introduction of smart card based fuel payments with minimal impact on existing IFSF based infrastructures and minimum dependence on others.
Ian Brown, President of IFSF said: “The IFSF has well developed and very widely used technical interface and security standards that handle all types of magnetic stripe cards accepted in Petroleum Retailing: Fuel cards, loyalty cards, bank cards and combinations of these. This also includes full EMV handling for bank cards. The main challenge in this work within the EFT Working Group (where C2P are also a member) was to bring together the two worlds of Fuel Cards (with its focus on product control and product handling) and EMV bank cards which serve different markets with different risk models. The co-operation between IFSF and C2P has been effective in helping IFSF develop its new standard for EMV-based Fuel Cards.”
Marie Costers, Head of Test Tools Competence Centre at Clear2Pay informs: “By taking the decision to extend the scope of its standards to include EMV based Fuel Cards, the IFSF is responding to the demand for flexible payment solutions and the changing needs and particularities of their members. It’s a pleasure to see that yet another standardization body is relying on Clear2Pay’s card and test expertise.”

2011/08/25 - Clear2Pay assists ITSO with set up of Certification Centre |
|
Press Release Clear2Pay assists British Transport Organisation ITSO with set up of Certification Centre in the United Kingdom Brussels, 25 August 2011 – Clear2Pay, the international technology provider of next generation payment solutions for financial institutions, today announces that it is supporting ITSO, the government-backed, not-for-profit organisation which defines and develops the UK-wide technical specification for smart ticketing, with the implementation of a Certification Centre in the United Kingdom. Clear2Pay will also provide further consultancy services to ITSO and deliver Integri Test Solutions to their vendor community.
ITSO has relied on Clear2Pay’s test technology and knowledge and used the company’s in-house laboratory to certify the ITSO vendor community since 2003. Under the terms of the new contract, Clear2Pay facilitates knowledge transfer so that ITSO can operate its own testing and certification centre. This centre, operational since July, enables ITSO Members and third party vendors to certify transport smart cards and devices against the prevailing specifications. Building on years of ITSO expertise, Clear2Pay will continue to provide Test Tools and Services to vendors, helping them to perform a straightforward pre-certification of their equipment.
The UK’s Department for Transport’s Smart and Integrated Ticketing Strategy sets a vision for British passengers to travel with tickets stored on smart cards or mobile devices. This paperless public transport infrastructure is expected to deliver many benefits for UK travelers, such as faster boarding times, reduced queuing, and increased public transport use, among other things.
The British Government is committed to delivering, with operators and public sector bodies, the infrastructure to enable most public transport journeys to be undertaken using smart ticketing by December 2014. ITSO, which is part funded by the Government, plays a very important part in achieving this vision. A growing number of ITSO-compliant smart ticketing schemes are in operation or development across England, and the Scottish and Welsh national schemes are already ITSO-compliant. With ITSO now shifting to a higher gear, the need for a UK Certification Centre is imperative.
Michael Leach, Chief Executive Officer at ITSO, states: “ITSO and its supplier community have been very well served by Clear2Pay in Belgium, but it is time to bring these services in-house so that we can have a closer relationship with our expanding transport service community and help them and the Government achieve their goals.”.
Marie Costers, Head of the Test Tools Competence Centre at Clear2Pay, comments: “It is simply great to work with a company which plays such a vital role in the public transport industry. ITSO has been working with Clear2Pay’s Technology and Test Services since many years. Today, we are absolutely thrilled to be instrumental in facilitating the UK infrastructure that offers seamless travel services to British citizens.”
